Local businesses already making the connections

The redevelopment of the Shell Centre is a major driving force behind the launch of the South London Procurement Network.

The site’s joint venture developers, Canary Wharf Group and Qatari Diar, have already committed to contracts worth over £1m with firms in the local area.

The Network will work with small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Borough of Lambeth and also more widely across south London to help them access and bid for contracts from major businesses and projects based in the area.

Here are some examples of local companies who are already making the connection with major firms in the local area, and with the Shell Centre developers and the South London Procurement Network. All will be founder members of the Network.

Eden Caterers has been creating stylish, scrumptious and now sustainable food for over 18 years. It has bespoke kitchens at Hercules Road in SE1, and has a team of around 30 people with collectively over 100 years’ experience in the industry. Its food is made using the finest, freshest, locally sourced ingredients.

Eden is the UK’s most sustainable catering company, and closely follows BS8901 to actively tackle environmental, financial and social issues.

Eden has provided the catering for six consultation workshops held in 2012 by the Shell Centre developers, and is providing the catering for the launch of the South London Procurement Network. It works closely with Waterloo Quarter’s Business Improvement District, and is a supplier to many major locally-based companies including the Royal Festival Hall, the Oxo Tower and the London Film Museum.

Greensmiths is a local supermarket with a difference. Established in 2008 and situated on Lower Marsh in SE1, it encompasses a butcher, a baker, a greengrocer, a coffee bar, and a wine merchant, as well as all the other daily food needs that would be found in a supermarket.

At its store, Greensmiths brings together a number of specialist food partners under one roof - a farmer/butcher (The Ginger Pig), baker (The Old Post Office Bakery), greengrocer (Solstice), and wine merchant (Waterloo Wine Company), as well as an “in house” cheesemonger and a full range of groceries and dairy products.

There is also a kitchen preparing food from fresh ingredients in the store to eat in the café or take away.

Greensmiths is providing the beverages for the launch for the South London Procurement Network, and is popular with employees from many businesses in the local area.

Strudel is a creative communications agency based in Short Street, SE1. It was founded in 2001 and employs around 10 people. It offers a wealth of services including advertising, branding, communications planning, social and digital media, copywriting and collateral production.

Strudel has been employed by the South London Procurement Network to undertake a range of branding and production work including the launch invitation, business cards, pop-up banners and a brochure.

Strudel works closely with Waterloo Quarter and the major healthcare charity InterHealth, plus a wide range of organisations in the local area including Inclusive Employers, The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, Morley College and Peabody.
