South London Procurement Network to host breakfast event with Lambeth College 2 April 2013

The South London Procurement Network (SLPN) will be hosting a breakfast event on Wednesday 24th April in conjunction with Lambeth College. The College will reveal its plans for the local youth employment scheme, welcoming Lambeth Council Deputy Leader Jackie Meldrum as a speaker.

Lambeth College

SLPN invite you to join us for breakfast, and to hear about the exciting opportunities presented by the College scheme. The SLPN client base, which has grown to over 500 SMEs since its launch in October 2012, covers all sectors of business from catering through to construction, and it is hoped that new partnerships and potential apprenticeship opportunities will be formed.

Apprenticeships benefit local residents by providing up-skilling opportunities to access high level jobs and sustainable employment. They also ensure that local and regional businesses have a strong and sustainable supply of skilled and semi-skilled staff to meet their needs.

Warren Edwards, Executive Development Director, Lambeth College, said:

“Lambeth College has worked with Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) to develop and deliver similar events but this is the first time we have run such an event with the South London Procurement Network.

The College runs ‘Sector-Based Work Academies’ supported by businesses, providing short employability programmes, work experience and interviews in their chosen field. It also offers employers a bank of work ready potential apprentices and also offers a free supported recruitment service to ensure that businesses get the right staff.”

Alexandra Webb, Procurement Network Manager, SLPN, said:

“There is a wealth of opportunities for local employers getting involved in apprenticeship initiatives such as the one set up by Lambeth College. It is great that we have been able to get involved in this and add extra value to our SME support.”

The event will be held at 8.30-10.30am on Wednesday 24th April 2013 at the Shell Centre, 4 York Road, London. There will be an opportunity to network following the talks.

If you wish to attend please rsvp (leaving your name and company name) to info@slpn.org.uk as spaces will fill up rapidly.
