South London Procurement Network were delighted to attend the launch of Lambeth College’s newest multi-million pound learning facilities, The Street SW4 on 21st November 2013. The Street SW4 has seen the installation of a fully functioning hairdressing and beauty therapy salon and spa, professional training kitchens and restaurant, a recruitment service ‘The Skills Exchange’, and retail outlets; all of which will be used to help learners play an important role in running a business and serving real clients and customers.

Principal and Chief Executive, Mark Silverman was joined by special guests Councillor Jackie Meldrum, Jason White, a contestant from the Great British Bake-Off in 2011, Paul Oscroft, Head of Colleges for Wella, Catherine Newton from the Skills Funding Agency, Herman Kok from construction group Lindum, Vice Chair of Governors Christopher Wellbelove and staff member Aidan Mooney who won a competition to give a name to the new facilities.

Mark Silverman paid tribute for the hard work and dedication shown by all who contributed to the project from its initial conception through the design, planning and construction.

Councillor Jackie Meldrum said ”With lots of great job creation developments going on in the borough at the moment, it’s reassuring to know that Lambeth College will be our partners in creating training and job opportunities for local people. I’m also so pleased we share the same name ‘Lambeth’ as well as the same ambitions and vision.”

Guests were given guided tours of all the new facilities and given an opportunity to sample some of the treatments available and taste the great food on offer in the restaurant.

The evening came to a conclusion with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Principal Silverman and Councillor Meldrum. There was also the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon to officially open our new businesses to the public. Local businesses are encouraged to utilise the pop-up shop on The Street which will benefit students by allowing them to experience what running a business entails.

To book a treatment, table or tan at reduced rates or to enquire about availability of the pop-up shop visit http://www.lambethcollege.ac.uk/.
