London’s councils and developers engage in 349 “speed-dating” meetings 14 March 2013

Big name developers and occupiers took the opportunity to meet with senior officers from London councils at the successful third Sitematch London event at City Hall on Tuesday 5 March.

The speed-dating-style event aimed to match developers to development opportunities throughout the capital. Attendance rose 25 per cent compared to the previous time it was staged, in November 2012.

Sitematch London saw 349 15-minute meetings take place between 75 developers and occupiers, 55 advisers and 121 officers and members from 35 councils, NHS trusts and other bodies including the GLA and its family of organisations.

Toby Fox, director at event organiser 3Fox International, of Vauxhall, said: "The Sitematch London event is on an upward curve, as the increased attendance shows.

"Private sector attendees value the opportunity the event gives them to meet all these bodies at the same time, in one room, face-to-face, to discuss some of the UK's most valuable development opportunities."

Tony Pidgley, chairman of house builder Berkeley Group, made the opening speech at the event. He said: "The key to addressing the growing housing crisis in London is collaboration between public and private sectors and this event helps encourage that dialogue."

London's deputy mayor for housing, Richard Blakeway, also made a keynote speech, in which he praised the Sitematch concept.

Private sector delegates included representatives of Aberdeen Asset Management, Barratt Homes, Bellway, BNP Paribas Real Estate, Capita Symonds, Design Council/CABE, GVA, Jones Lang LaSalle, Laing O'Rourke, Lend Lease, Lovell, Cathedral Group, McDonalds, One Housing Group, Sainsbury’s, CBRE, Willmott Dixon, Peter Brett Associates and WM Morrison Supermarkets. Media partner Estates Gazette covered the event.

Following the success of the first two Sitematch London events held in March and November 2012, observers from the Welsh Government, the Scottish Cities Alliance and Leeds City Region were also in attendance as observers.

Photographs of the event are available at Sitematch London Photos.

The next Sitematch London event will be held in February 2014.
